Tasty’s Chigago Grill

The winning formula at Tasty’s Chicago Grill (824 W. Eldo/1315 W King Street) is pretty basic: good food, fast and friendly service, and great prices.

While I’ve not tried every item (I’m looking at you, Double Stack Gyro Burger), everything I’ve had has been, in a word, “Yummmmmmmmmm.”

The Original Chicago Dog is an obvious standout, and every bit as good as you would expect. Not obvious but worth a try is the Greek Salad, though I warn you: it packs enough onions that, if eaten completely, will keep all but the best of friends a good ten feet from your mouth (worth the isolation, though). I also highly recommend the Philly Cheese Steak.

Meal deals include a 20 oz. drink and a ton of fries. Baklava is available for dessert.

Bottom line: it’s all good and you get major bang for your buck. In fact, Tasty’s eclectic menu and inexpensive prices are the perfect solution for a carload of hungry penny-pinchers with totally different tastes. You just can’t go wrong here.

Both locations have drive-thrus & outdoor dining; indoor dining at Eldo only.

Main Hangar

The Main Hangar Restaurant (910 S. Airport Rd) proudly boasts that it’s menu features forty-one “one-of-a-kind entrees” among it’s many, many selections. With that kind of choice, where does one start?

The Hangar’s specialty is Italian, and the tortellini with marinara sauce is a great starting point. They’ve also got a wonderful Fettuccine Alfredo, and, if you’re looking for something different, try the lasagna soup.

Good as their Italian is, it’s the “home” made dishes that really shine, by which I mean the stuff your mom used to make but here tastes brand new. Specifically, the pot roast is incredible. Juicy and tender, it practically melts in your mouth. Get a side of Parmesan Baby Bakers and your tummy will be happy all night. The fried chicken is also aces.

Prices are typical for a nice, sit-down dining experience, though once you factor in the portions, atmosphere, and view (of the airport’s runway), the Main Hangar is one seriously good deal.

In addition to dinner, the Hangar serves breakfast and lunch, with a terrific Sunday brunch served 8am to 2pm.
